April Saturday Sesh with Evelyn LaChapelle Program Associate, Last Prisoner Project & Founder, Eighty Seven

Oakland CA native Evelyn LaChapelle is an experienced events coordinator and community liaison, who is now utilizing her professional position within the legal cannabis industry to advocate for restorative justice. She is a program associate at Last Prisoner Project, dedicated to redressing the past and continuing harms caused by the war on cannabis.

She completed the courses required to receive a bachelor’s degree in business administration with an emphasis in Entrepreneurship from Loyola Marymount University. In 2013, she was convicted on three charges related to her minor role in a marijuana distribution operation. She was sentenced to 87 months in prison. She had no prior record and in fact had no indicators that she was a repeat offender.

On February 1, 2019, she was released from federal custody and began her 4 year probation sentence. She immediately found employment in a prominent hotel as a sales and catering coordinator. She is dedicated to offering support to people who have recently been incarcerated.

Evelyn has overcome these challenges and has found success in the legal cannabis industry through her work at infusion technology company Oakland based Vertosa, where she is the host of an IGTV segment “The Heart of Cannabis” back in her hometown. In addition, Evelyn is building her own luxury cannabis essential brand “Eighty Seven.” Her mission is to build a platform for the formerly incarcerated to find their path into this industry. Eighty Seven represents the 87 months she was sentenced to prison. It is a story of defeat and victory and she plans to push this brand and industry forward by normalizing cannabis consumption with luxury cannabis essentials.

Saturday Sesh with Alison Kutz, president of Sound Horticulture

Sat Sesh Alison Kutz.png

Alison comes from a background of greenhouse management; first building then operating a wholesale specialty plant nursery in Bellingham, WA in the early 80’s. Inspired to grow herbs and edibles without dangerous pesticides and with limited industry information available, Alison looked to the Canadian grower network nearby for tools. Beneficial insects produced on nearby Vancouver Island were available, so the biocontrol journey began there. After 20 years of research in beneficial insect use, compost tea brewing, designing soil blends and other green growing methods, she began Sound Horticulture in 2000. Her passion for holistic cultivation fuels and encourages her company’s broad aspirations; bringing biological solutions from years of experience to large scale crop management, greenhouse ornamentals, hydroponics and more.

The Cannabis Alliance Presents WEBINAR WEDNESDAYS: BEYOND REGULATION IN MEDICAL CANNABIS

WebWed4.png

For the 2021 Legislative Session The Cannabis Alliance will be hosting an ongoing series of speakers and discussion around our four key bills being introduced this session.

For many patients securing DOH compliant – true medical grade product – is extremely complicated. When they are able to secure a consistent supply of medicine often the quantities they require are cost prohibitive. Our panel will discuss how removing the excise tax for patients on DOH compliant products will affect those who most need cannabis.

Like all of our subjects in this webinar series we will be hosting a panel of experts in Remo with a Q&A portion of the panel, as well as a replay and separate Q&A in Zoom. We hope you will join us for these discussions!
